Ever since the Mumbai Siege began, national TV channels in India like NDTV were busy calling it India’s 9/11.
It is as bad as Samudra Gupta (who lived much before Alexander) being portrayed as the ‘Indian Alexander’ in school text books.
Why even equate the Mumbai Seige with 9/11? NDTV and other TV channels were sensationalising a national tragedy.
Even when the terrorists were firing away; many of the Indian TV channels – with NDTV taking a lead role – started to push their neo-liberal agenda. Let’s kick some political ass!
Our politicians represent the face of Indian democracy. We are not in any mood to import Multi-national ‘politicians’ to fix the system. India is a democratic state; our politicians get elected too.
Unleashing a carpet bombing of our politicians (democratic representatives) – NDTV and others were busy making the armed forces the real heroes. In effect, these media companies were attacking our democracy itself.
Yes, the politicians and administration failed – when it came to acting on available intelligence. They also failed in keeping the TV cameras away from where the operations were on. So much so, the NDTV (Hindi correspondent) reporting from outside the TAJ hotel – was wearing a suit as if he is attending a wedding. Just to give you an idea, BBC’s top journalists too were flown in to cover the great tragedy — none of them wore suits.
I understand the Indian political system is not perfect by any means. Media should be more responsible while competing with each other for “Breaking News.”
Times Now and other channels have now found a common enemy; Kerala CM. If you know malayalam, you’ll understand what he meant by the dogs.
Every year, Indian armed forces lose close to 500 soldiers protecting our borders. Their funeral is not televised. No Gujarat CM offers them 10Million Rs; there is no fanfare at all. In fact, it was deeply shocking to see Indian special commando team not having night-vision goggles during the operation. Poor guys were using search/torch lights.
Indian government machinery and politicians can do a lot – we have many miles to go before we become an efficient country. But somehow, if we try to undermine democracy, and make people believe an Army state is more safer than being a democracy – then we are definitely destroying our nation. NDTV and other channels and print media must be pulled up for being anti state.
My main objection is to Barkha Dutt standing in the middle of a crowd, while operations were going on in Nariman House, reporting on how people are celebrating our Army’s success. People are very emotional in times of such great tragedy. Neither the people nor NDTV cameras should have been there in the first place – almost jeopardizing the operation.
Whenever camera panned on the crowd, they went wild. Of course, they show same emotions during a cricket match too.
Somehow a very sinister plot has been unleashed on our democracy, by the terrorists, media and the so-called socialites.
Yes, an exploding TAJ is a great spectacle on TV. Had this tragedy taken place in the slums of Mumbai or anywhere else in India… would the TV cameras follow?
Close to a 100 Indians were killed on 27th Nov, when cyclone nisha damaged so many coastal villages of Tamil Nadu. I couldn’t see anything on NDTV – as they kept playing the TAJ crisis over and over.
How comes the lives of the poor Tamilians living in the coastal belt be any inferior to the ones that died in Mumbai? Come on India, let’s have a sense of life here.
When anyone joins the defence forces – they know too well that they are going to be paid killers. They would kill on behalf of me and you (as we pay them the salary) – to protect us and our interests, which would also mean killing enemies and sometimes innocent people. To suggest that Indian army has only killed ‘evil people’ is so wrong. To make martyrs of these paid killers – to glorify them… that many more young Indians would sign up to be soldiers – are all part of a big game.
If Major Unnikrishnan got killed in a combat; he knew it very well when he signed to become a soldier – that one day he could get killed too. The nation is thankful for their service, as much as we are thankful to the teachers, doctors, bus drivers and so many millions who do their job to ensure India remains a free and democratic country.
NDTV and other slime-covered media wouldn’t tell us the truth. The truth is simple: It is not that politicians are criminals; it is just that these days criminals become politicians.
Indian media has a massive responsibility to ensure people don’t lose focus of our democratic values; of us being a secular state.
The attack on Indian democracy will and can only help big business. And media needs big business support.
